Richard Healey Removals - 10 Packing Tips

Knowing how to pack your items can be difficult. Have a look at our packing tips that should help you along the way.

1) Prepare Before Packing :

Properly packing fragile items takes time and should not be rushed. Lay out all fragile items and take time to pack your delicate valuables.

2) Use Various Box Sizes :

Having an assortment of boxes that are difference sizes is key when it comes to transporting your goods. Heavier items should be packed into smaller boxes with lighter items in bigger boxes to use space effectively when it comes to loading vehicles for transport.

3) Protective Materials :

Packing paper is essential for packing fragile items. Use paper in abundance to fill empty spaces. This will help stop any movement and will help to absorb any shock throughout the box.

4) Don't Overpack Boxes :

Use sturdy boxes for packing fragile items and don't exceed the boxes recommended weight. For fragile items, try not to leave any room for items to move within the box to avoid damage.

5) Label The Contents :

Not all boxes will have fragile items inside them. Making a note that there are fragile items in the box is the best way to identify them and to take extra care when moving these boxes.

Making a note of which room the box has come from is also helpful when it comes to unpacking.

6) Packing plates :

Plates should be wrapped with packing paper.

Scrunched paper should be placed at the bottom of the box and then the plate placed vertically. Before the next plate, add a layer of paper for protection.

7) Packing Glasses :

Similar to plates, glasses should be individually wrapped with paper. When packing glasses, ensure that there is packing paper used to fill the glass to diminish empty space.

Place heavier glasses at the bottom with lighter glasses at the top of your box.

8) Packing Silverware :

Packing silverware should be done with acid-free packing paper to ensure there is no damage to the precious metals or delicate items.

9) Packing Electronics :

Wrapping for electronics (especially computers) should be done with anti-static bubblewrap to ensure that there is no damage to the electronics.

10) Prepare For Unpacking :

With preparation for packing and labeling all of your boxes, the unpacking phase of your move should be quick and stress free.

Make sure each box is empty as small items may get lost in paper.
